Our Research Group, the Coastal Urban-Environment Research Group (CUERG), has several doctoral degree research fellowships and assistantships opportunities in coastal-urban systems; modeling, observations, and applications to: weather; climate; energy and air quality. Coastal-urban systems represent a next frontier in environmental processes as these are the regions with highest populations and at most risks to climate extremes. Particular interests to the CUERG group include: high-resolution modeling of coastal-urban processes, fundamentals of boundary-layer processes at the coastal-urban boundaries, satellite remote sensing of coastal-urban systems, extreme coastal weather processes and impacts on critical urban infrastructure, and applications to sustainable energy, air quality, and health.
Qualifications of prospect students include UG, MS or PhD. students from sciences or engineering with solid background in environmental fluid mechanics and heat transfer, or atmospheric sciences, or boundary layer processes, prefer with good programming skills. If you are interested, please send an email of interest to Prof. J. González-Cruz (jgonzalezcruz@ccny.cuny.edu), along with a 1-page resume.

Energy Load and Climate Forecasts:
- Analyze load energy demands, mean and peak for whole New York State;
- Formulate correlations for load energy demands with climate records for mean, peaks, and different seasons;
- Configure urbanized uWRF (Urbanized Weather and Research Forecast) modeling in super-clusters and cloud-based environments for energy forecasts in cities;
- Calibrate and validate climate and energy forecasts for NY State from uWRF against existing records.
Design and execute future climate and energy loads modeling experiments:
- Design model ensembles for future climates and energy demands for NY State taking into consideration energy policies and urban plans;
- Conduct long-term forecasts of climate and energy demands (up to 2100) for NY State, analyze and document the results.
Contribute to operationalize model execution for future energy demand scenarios:
Additional Responsibilities:
- Publish peer-reviewed articles, conference and workshops participation, weekly group meetings, note-taking, co-mentor graduate students.
